Unprecedented magnetic relaxation via the fourth excited state in low-coordinate lanthanide single-ion magnets: a theoretical perspective.

چکیده
Four low-coordinate SIMs have been studied to probe their relaxation dynamics using ab initio calculations. Our calculations reveal that both the symmetry and the equatorial ligand field play a key role in controlling the barrier heights in three-coordinate [Ln(III)(NSiMe3)3] complexes (Ln = Dy/Er). This study reveals an unprecedented blockade of magnetization up to three excited states for the Er(III) complex.

متن کاملAn NCN-pincer ligand dysprosium single-ion magnet showing magnetic relaxation via the second excited state
Single-molecule magnets are compounds that exhibit magnetic bistability purely of molecular origin. The control of anisotropy and suppression of quantum tunneling to obtain a comprehensive picture of the relaxation pathway manifold, is of utmost importance with the ultimate goal of slowing the relaxation dynamics within single-molecule magnets to facilitate their potential applications. Combine...
متن کاملHigh symmetry or low symmetry, that is the question - high performance Dy(iii) single-ion magnets by electrostatic potential design.
A series of mononuclear lanthanide Zn-Dy-Zn type single-molecule magnets (SMMs) were synthesized and magnetically characterized. The four molecules ([Zn2(L1)2DyCl3]·2H2O (1), [Zn2(L1)2Dy(MeOH)Br3]·3H2O (2), [Zn2(L1)2Dy(H2O)Br2]·[ZnBr4]0.5 (3) and [Zn2(L2)2DyCl3]·2H2O (4)) all display remarkable magnetic relaxation behavior with a relatively high energy barrier and hysteresis temperature, despit...
متن کاملAn air-stable Dy(iii) single-ion magnet with high anisotropy barrier and blocking temperature
Herein we report air-stable Dy(III) and Er(III) single-ion magnets (SIMs) with pseudo-D5h symmetry, synthesized from a sterically encumbered phosphonamide, BuPO(NHPr)2, where the Dy(III)-SIM exhibits a magnetization blocking (TB) up to 12 K, defined from the maxima of the zero-field cooled magnetization curve, with an anisotropy barrier (Ueff) as high as 735.4 K. The Dy(III)-SIM exhibits a magn...
متن کاملRecord-high thermal barrier of the relaxation of magnetization in the nitride clusterfullerene Dy2ScN@C80-Ih†
The Dy-Sc nitride clusterfullerene Dy2ScN@C80-Ih exhibits slow relaxation of magnetization up to 76 K. Above 60 K, thermally-activated relaxation proceeds via the fifth-excited Kramers doublet with the energy of 1735 ± 21 K, which is the highest barrier ever reported for dinuclear lanthanide single molecule magnets.
